CLERMONT, Fla. — Gordon played FDU-Florham and Westfield State at Legends Way Field in the PFX Games and lost both games by the score of 9-7 after closing the gap in the seventh inning in both games with three runs after being down 9-4.
In the first game, the Fighting Scots (0-6) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning as
Lily Rivera grounded out and drove in
Megan Jenkerson. The Devils (2-5) scored two runs in the top of the third for a 2-1 lead. Rivera hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 2-2. Gordon added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 4-2 game. FDU-Florham scored four runs in the top of the fifth and had a two-run homerun in the top of the sixth to take a five-run lead into the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Jenkerson hit a single to put a runner on base with one out.
Karissa Hatchell singled up the middle to put two runners on base. That set up Rivera to hit her second home run of the game and make it a 9-7 game. The Fighting Scots were able to put two more runners on base with two outs, but had a fly out on their last at-bat to seal the win for FDU-Florham.
Rivera went 2-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs. Jenkerson batted 3-for-4 with two runs, a double, and an RBI. Hatchell went 2-for-4 with one run.
Caitlin Catalanotto started the game, pitched 4.2 innings, and struck out three batters.
Kristen Brown pitched 2.1 innings of relief and only allowed one hit.
In the second game, the Owls (1-3) struck first in the bottom of the third as they scored four runs. Gordon responded in the top of the fourth with two runs off a fielder's choice with the bases loaded and a sacrifice fly by Jenkerson that drove in
Emily Kline. Westfield State added five runs in the bottom of the fourth for 9-2 lead. The Fighting Scots cut the lead to five runs with two more runs in the top of the fifth. Kline hit a single up the middle that scored
Rose Shannon and Hatchell singled to drive in
Arianna Ramsaran to make it a 9-4 game. They held the Owls to two hits in the next two innings to keep the lead at five runs entering the seventh. Gordon started out the inning with a double by Ramsaran. Kline doubled to left center to drive Ramsaran in and put another baserunner in scoring position. Hatchell flied out to centerfield to put two outs on the board and the Fighting Scots down four runs. They followed that up with two straight doubles to drive in Kline and
Meredith Kercher to cut the lead to two runs.
Kali Denty struck out with Jenkerson in scoring position to seal the victory for Westfield State.
Kline batted 3-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs, and a double. Jenkerson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double. Ramsaran batted 2-for-3 with three runs.
Gordon next plays two games March 14 against Marian and Smith at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
