HENNIKER, N.H. — Gordon traveled to play New England College in its last non-conference game of the season at Don Melander Field and attempted 41 shots in its 18-17 loss in overtime.
The Pilgrims (6-2) got on the board first in the third minute as Tara Bainbridge scored off a pass from Tailor Chapin.
Olivia McCarrick tied the game twenty seconds later at 1-1 for the Fighting Scots (4-6) with her 35
th goal of the season. New England College then scored three straight goals to take a 4-1 lead.
Katelyn Dyer scored two goals in the ninth and tenth minute respectively to cut the deficit to one goal. Bainbridge scored two straight goals to make it a 6-3 game. Gordon outscored the Pilgrims 5-2 in the next 11 minutes to tie the game at 8-8. Alana Scott scored two straight goals to give New England College a 10-8 lead with 1:02 left in the first half. Dyer scored two goals in the last 39 seconds, including a goal with one second left, that were assisted by McCarrick to make it a 10-10 game at halftime.
In the second half, the Pilgrims scored three goals in the first four minutes to take a 13-10 lead.
Lena Larson and
Paige Thompson scored in the next three minutes to make it a 13-12 game. The Fighting Scots tied the game at 15-15 as they outscored them 3-2 in the next 13 minutes of action. Bainbridge scored two straight goals to put New England College up 17-15 with 2:39 left in the half. McCarrick scored an unassisted goal with 2:15 left to make it a 17-16 game. Gordon kept the pressure up as Dyer put two shots on goal while
Cassidy Allen put one shot on goal in the next minute and a half of play. Larson took a pass from Dyer and put it past the keeper with nine seconds left to send the game to overtime.
The Fighting Scots won the draw control to open overtime, but were forced into a turnover by Alyssa Tursi. Bainbridge scored her tenth goal of the game with five minutes left in overtime to seal the win for the Pilgrims.
Dyer tied her career-high with six goals and also posted career-bests in draw controls with nine and in ground balls with seven. McCarrick dished out a career-best seven assists, scored three goals, and grabbed a career-high six ground balls.
Melanie Dwyer grabbed a career-high eight ground balls and had a career-best seven caused turnovers.
Greta Moore led the team with a career-best 13 draw controls.
Kaitlyn Ober recorded eight saves and faced 30 shots.
Gordon next travels to play the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference action April 4 at 4 p.m.
