BIDDEFORD, Maine — Gordon traveled to take on the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference action and split the series with a 3-0 loss and a 6-5 win.
In game one, the Nor'easters (17-15, 10-6 CCC) scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the first inning as Sarah Lachapelle hit an RBI single to right center to score Andrea Gosper, Sam Dreissig hit an RBI single to right center to drive in Caroline Schoenbucher, and Meg Harvey fouled out to left field to score Lachapelle. They held the Fighting Scots (10-21, 6-12 CCC) without a hit and only allowed one walk.
In game two, Gordon struck first in the top of the first as
Caitlin Catalanotto hit a sacrifice fly to left field to drive in
Arianna Ramsaran.
Lily Rivera stretched the lead to two runs with a solo home run in the top of the second. The University of New England got on the board in the bottom of the second as Anna Sessa hit an RBI single that scored Dreissig. In the top of the third, Catalanotto hit a sacrifice bunt down the first base line that drove in
Karissa Hatchell to make it a 3-1 game. Ali Kuechler cut the lead to one run in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single to score Sessa. Gosper gave the Nor'easters their only lead of the game with two-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth. In the top of the seventh,
Kristen Brown hit a three-run home run for her first career home run which also gave the Fighting Scots a 6-4 lead. The University of New England scored one run in the bottom of the seventh with Alexis Kapsambelis scoring off a wild pitch to cut the lead to one run with two outs. They were able to put another runner on base and they were both moved into scoring position by a passed ball. Gordon forced a ground out on that at-bat to seal the win.
Brown batted 3-for-4 with three RBIs and one run. Hatchell went 2-for-4 with two runs. Ramsaran batted 2-for-4 with one run.
Jasmine Mullally pitched all seven innings and struck out four batters.
The Fighting Scots close out the regular season with a road non-conference doubleheader at WPI April 25 at 4 p.m.
