Ramsaran Homers Twice As Scots Upset No. 5 Seed Nor'easters

BIDDEFORD, Maine — No. 8 seed Gordon traveled to take on No. 5 seed University of New England in the play-in game of the Commonwealth Coast Conference Softball Tournament at the UNE Softball Field and only allowed four hits in its 2-0 victory.

The Fighting Scots (11-21) advance to the double elimination phase of the tournament for the second year in-a-row as the No. 8 seed.

Gordon got on the board in the top of the first inning with a solo home run by Arianna Ramsaran. Ramsaran hit another home run in the top of the seventh to stretch the lead to two runs. The Nor'easters (17-20) recorded two hits and left two runners on base in the first six innings to leave them with one more chance at-bat. In the bottom of the seventh, they were able to put two runners on base with one out. Caitlin Catalanotto then struck out Gabby Harrison and forced Caty Flagg to fly out to Rose Shannon to get the last two outs and seal the win.

Ramsaran went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. She now has seven home runs on the season. Kristen Brown batted 2-for-2 and Karissa Hatchell went 1-for-3 with a walk.

Catalanotto pitched a complete game, picked up her third shutout of the season, and struck out four batters.

The Fighting Scots will next play No. 4 seed Salve Regina in Game 3 of the tournament tomorrow April 28 at 12 p.m. which will be hosted by No. 1 seed Endicott. The winner of that game will play No. 1 seed Endicott and the loser of the game will play the loser of the second game at No. 2 seed Eastern Nazarene on May 4.
