BEVERLY, Mass. — No. 8 seed Gordon traveled to play No. 4 seed Salve Regina in their second game of the Commonwealth Coast Conference Softball Tournament at Endicott and recorded five hits in its 4-1 win.
The Fighting Scots (12-21) struck first in the top of the fourth inning as
Sarah Ryder hit a two-RBI double that drove in
Lily Rivera and
Caitlin Catalanotto. They added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth with
Kristen Brown reaching off a fielder's choice that scored
Arianna Ramsaran and
Karissa Hatchell stealing home to stretch the lead to four runs. They held the Seahawks (15-19) to five hits and forced them to leave six runners on base in the first six innings. In the bottom of the seventh, Catalanotto struck out the first two batters to put two outs on the board. Jaycee Garrigan singled and then stole second to put a runner in scoring position. Francesca Galeazzi reached based off an error by the third baseman which scored Garrigan to cut the lead to three runs. Lindsey Florent singled to advance Galeazzi and put the tying run at the plate. Elizabeth Lombardo fouled out to Hatchell on the next at-bat to seal the win for Gordon.
Ramsaran batted 2-for-2 with two walks, one run, and a double. Ryder went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Catalanotto batted 1-for-3 with one run.
Catalanotto pitched a complete game, allowed zero earned runs off of seven hits, and recorded 11 strikeouts.
The Fighting Scots will next play No. 1 seed Endicott in Game 3 of the CCC Tournament at 2:30 p.m.
