Golden Bears Scratch Scots in Regular Season Finale

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Gordon traveled to play Western New England in its final regular season game in Commonwealth Coast Conference play at Golden Bear Stadium went 17-for-22 in clears in its 11-8 loss.

The Fighting Scots (5-10, 1-7 CCC) struck first in the fifth minute as Nick Palandjian scored off a pass from Xander Miller. The Golden Bears (11-6, 8-0 CCC) tied the game in the 14th minute with a goal by Nick Gamba. They started the second quarter with six straight goals to take a 7-1 lead. Jason Dantona and Miller each scored in the next two minutes to cut the lead to four goals. Brendan Lyons scored off a pass from Marc Fiocco in the 28th minute to give Western New England an 8-3 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, Joe Holleran scored off a pass from Tim Breau in the 35th minute to stretch the lead to six goals. Miller scored with 26 seconds left in the third quarter to cut the lead back to five. Gamba scored with six seconds left to give the Golden Bears a 10-4 lead going into the fourth quarter. Gordon scored four goals in the first 11 minutes of the fourth quarter to cut the lead to two goals. Western New England sealed the win by scoring a goal with 1:09 left and holding the Fighting Scots to one shot in the final four minutes.

Dantona tied his career-high with four goals. Miller scored two goals, dished out one assist, and tied his career-best with five ground balls.

Jay Gallipo recorded 14 saves and faced 37 shots.

Palandjian finishes the regular season ranked third in the CCC with 39 goals. Gallipo ends the regular season ranked fifth in the CCC in saves with 164.
