NEWPORT, R.I. — Gordon traveled to play Salve Regina in its last Commonwealth Coast Conference regular-season doubleheader at Reynolds Field and lost 3-2 and 6-2.
In game one, the Seahawks (23-13, 12-4 CCC) got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning as Dylan Ketch singled to score John Militano.
Matt Moffat drove in
Erik Gauer in the top of the second with an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1 for the Fighting Scots (17-16, 8-8 CCC)
. John Lagerfeldt hit an RBI single to score
Daniel Quint in the top of the third to make it a 2-1 game. Salve Regina scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth with one run coming from a balk and Christian Vargas hitting an RBI single to drive in Colton Eremian to make it a 4-2 game. They held Gordon to one hit in the next two innings to leave them with one more opportunity to tie the game in the seventh inning. In the top of the seventh, the Fighting Scots put two runners on base with a single by Quint and Hodge being hit by a pitch with no outs. Lagerfeldt grounded out to the pitcher to advance Quint and Hodge both into scoring position. The Seahawks sealed the win by striking out the next batter and forcing a fly out.
Quint went 3-for-4 with one run. Moffatt batted 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Mark Gadaleta pitched a complete game and recorded three strikeouts.
In game two, Salve Regina scored first in the bottom of the second as Dustin Siqueira singled to score Michael DeFusco. Gordon tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third as Lagerfeldt was walked with the bases loaded which drove in
Chris Leavitt. The Seahawks regained the lead in the bottom of the inning as DeFusco singled to score Dylan Ketch and make it a 2-1 game. Quint singled to drive in
Travis Benoit in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 2-2. Salve Regina added one run in the bottom of the fifth and three runs in the bottom of the sixth to stretch the lead to four runs. They held the Fighting Scots to one hit and forced them to leave one runner on base in the last three innings to clinch the sweep.
Hodge went 2-for-2 while Quint batted 2-for-3 with an RBI. Benoit went 1-for-3 one run and one stolen base.
Gordon will enter the CCC Tournament as the No. 6 seed and will play No. 3 seed Western New England at Roger Williams May 5 at 12 p.m.
