WENHAM, Mass. — Gordon hosted No. 25 St. Joseph's (Maine) in its season opener and first game of the North Shore Invitational at the Brigham Athletic Complex and fell 3-0.
The Monks (1-0) got on the board in the fourth minute with a goal by Brett Mattos assisted by Cody Elliot. They possessed the ball for much of the first half as they attempted eight shots in the half and held the Fighting Scots (0-1) without a shot in the half.
St. Joseph's continued the pressure on offense in the second half as they put up 15 shots to one shot for Gordon. That pressure led to two more goals in the second half, one by Jesse Ramirez in the 71
st minute and one by Kudi Onyejose in the 88
th minute.
Micah Craig attempted the Fighting Scots' only shot in the 48
th minute which was stopped by Blake Mullen.
Wesley Sprague fell one save short of his career-high as he recorded nine stops and faced 23 shots.
Gordon next hosts No. 4 Brandeis in non-conference play Sept. 2 at 7 p.m.
