WENHAM, Mass. — Gordon hosted Union in non-conference play at the Quad and came away with a 1-0 overtime victory on a golden goal by
Lexi Potter.
The Dutchmen (0-2) got started quickly as Linsey Giles-Captain's shot was saved by
Giselle Maso 14 seconds into the game. The Fighting Scots (1-1) responded with four shots in the next six minutes with two being on goal. The teams traded shots the rest of the half with 11 of the 22 shots being on goal.
The second half started much like the first half as Union attempted two shots in the first seven minutes with Erin O'Shea's shot being stopped by
Jenny Deckert in the 53
rd minute. Both teams had multiple scoring opportunities with five shots on goal in the half. Gordon had two opportunities at the end of the half with
Monet Marshall's shot going wide left with 39 seconds left. They also had another opportunity that was stopped by an offside call with 15 seconds left in the half to send the Fighting Scots to overtime for the second straight game.
Potter scored the golden goal 1:34 into overtime to seal the win. The goal is her second of the season and the seventh game-winning goal in her career.
Maso had seven saves in the first half while Deckert stopped three shots in the second half.
Gordon next travels to take on Middlebury in non-conference play Sept. 5 at 5 p.m.
