Scots Blank Nor'easters

BIDDEFORD, Maine — Gordon went on the road to take on the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Barbara J. Hazard Field and attempted 20 shots in its 1-0 victory.

The Fighting Scots (3-3, 1-0 CCC) got a quick start on offense as Asha Steele put a shot on goal in the first minute that was saved by Emily Ashman. The Nor'easters (1-3, 0-1 CCC) did not put up a shot until the ninth minute as Sydney Littlefield's shot was saved by Giselle Maso. Both teams had multiple scoring opportunities as they combined to put five shots on goal in the next 22 minutes of action. Monet Marshall and Tori Caswell both put shots on goal in a three-second span in the 27th minute, but both were stopped by Ashman to keep the game at 0-0. Caswell broke the tie in the 39th minute with her first goal of the season. Ashley Sherman's shot in the 40th minute was stopped by Maso to make it a 1-0 game entering halftime.

Gordon possessed the ball for much of the second half as they held a 9-4 shot advantage. The University of New England put two of those shots on goal. Sherman's shot in the 66th minute and Katie Beaudoin's shot in the 81st minute were both stopped by Maso. The Fighting Scots did not allow a shot in the last nine minutes of action to seal the win.

Maso recorded five saves and faced eight shots.

Gordon next travels to play Worcester State in non-conference action Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
