WORCESTER, Mass. — Gordon traveled to take on Worcester State in non-conference action at Coughlin Field and put 11 shots on goal in its 5-2 win.
The Fighting Scots (4-3) got on the board first in the sixth minute as
Asha Steele scored her first goal of the season off a pass from
Ashton Barkey.
Taemar Shearer scored in the 19
th minute to stretch their lead to 2-0. The Lancers (3-5) did not attempt a shot until the 19
th minute when Ali Maldonado's shot was saved by
Jenny Deckert. Skylar Alves cut the deficit to one goal in the 43
rd minute. Kelsey Bergquist's shot went wide with nine seconds left in the half to keep the game at 2-1 going into halftime.
In the second half, Steele scored her second goal 24 seconds into the half to give Gordon a 3-1 lead. Maddie Fong scored in the 58
th minute to cut the lead to one goal.
Lexi Potter added two goals, one in the 67
th and one the 81
st minute, to give the Fighting Scots a 5-2 lead. They only allowed two shots in the last 33 minutes of action to seal the win.
Jenny Deckert recorded five saves and faced 15 shots.
Potter now has eight game-winning goals in her career.
Gordon next travels to take on Johnson & Wales in non-conference play Sept. 22 at 3 p.m.
