WENHAM, Mass. — Gordon hosted Commonwealth Coast foe Wentworth for its Homecoming game at The Quad and put nine shots on goal in its 3-0 win.
The Fighting Scots (6-4, 2-0 CCC) started off the game aggressively on offense as they attempted five shots in the first 20 minutes of action. Two of those shots were on goal with
Monet Marshall's shot in the fourth minute and
Lexi Potter's shot in the fifth minute both being saved by Christie Fleming. The Leopards (5-4-2, 0-1-1 CCC) put both of their shots on goal in that same time frame with Jess Poratti's shot in the fifth minute and Abigail Meyers' shot in the 20
th minute both being stopped by
Jenny Deckert.
Kyra Skurcenski broke the tie in the 28
th minute as she scored off a pass from
Lexi Potter to put Gordon up 1-0.
Asha Steele scored in the 43
rd minute to stretch the lead to two goals. Alexis Stickelman's shot in the 44
th minute was stopped by Deckert to keep the game at 2-0 entering halftime.
In the second half, Steele scored again in the 64
th minute off a pass from
Devin Lacroix to make it a 3-0 game. The Fighting Scots maintained a slight edge in shots the rest of the way with a 4-3 advantage. Wentworth put two more shots on goal with Madyson Reno's shot in the 79
th minute and Taylor Patti's shot in the 80
th minute being saved by Deckert to seal the win.
Deckert recorded a career-high seven saves in her first shutout and faced nine shots.
Steele has now scored two goals in a game five times in her career.
Gordon next hosts Salem State in its final non-conference game of the season Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
