Scots Fall to Lyons

NORTON, Mass. — Gordon traveled to play Wheaton in non-conference play at Mirrione Stadium and put five shots on goal in its 2-1 loss.

The first half was even offensively for both teams as they each attempted five shots. The Fighting Scots (1-3) put three of those shots on goal in the first 20 minutes of play. The Lyons (4-0) were also aggressive in the first 20 minutes of play as they attempted four shots with two being stopped by Jenny Deckert. Asha Steele's shot in the 42nd minute went wide of the net in Gordon's last scoring opportunity of the half. Wheaton had two corner kicks in 43rd minute, but were unable to get a shot off to keep the game tied at 0-0 entering halftime.

In the second half, the Lyons attempted two shots in the first four minutes of action. Sam Ortiz's shot in the 49th minute was saved by Deckert. The Fighting Scots got on the board in the 52nd minute as Kyra Skurcenski grabbed a rebound off the goalie and put it in the left side of the net. Wheaton tied the game at 1-1 five minutes later as Chloe Troy scored off an assist by Kenza Farid. They upped the pressure on offense as they attempted three shots and had five corner kicks in an eight-minute span. Jaime Rattenni made it a 2-1 game in the 65th minute with an unassisted goal. The Lyons only allowed two shots in the last 35 minutes of play as Ashton Barkey's shot was high in the 72nd minute and Lexi Potter's shot in the 85th minute was saved by Alexa Barbagallo to clinch the win.

Deckert recorded two saves and faced 16 shots.

Gordon next hosts New England College in non-conference action Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
