Gordon College Men's Basketball welcomed Wentworth to the Bennett Center in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup. The Fighting Scots pulled off another close win, inching out the Leopards 73-71. The Scots improve to 18-2 overall and 10-1 in conference play while the Leopards fall to 6-14 overall and 4-8 in league action.
Gordon was led by
Eric Demers who paved the way for the Scots pouring in 34 points, grabbing three steals, and dishing out three assists, Noah Szilgayi netted 16 points and Garrison Duvivier recorded another double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Leopards saw production from Gavin Keough (So./Dunstable, Mass.) who had 21 points and five rebounds. Stephen Azums (Jr./Hyde Park, Mass.) scored 17 points and grabbed a game-high 23 rebounds. Noah Bice (Fr./Woodacre, Calif.) recorded 12 points and three assists.
The Scots and Leopards both return to the hardwood this Saturday, February 2, as both teams are on the road with Gordon traveling to Roger Williams University, while Wentworth visiting Endicott at 3 p.m. in another CCC matchup.
How It Happened
- The Scots started off the game hot, scoring four of their first five baskets off of three pointers from Demers, Szilgayi, Jake Haar, and Demers again, giving them a 10-point lead in the first five minutes of the half.
- The Leopards tied the game with five minutes to go in the half after a three-pointer from Bice.
- Demers capped off his stellar first half with a three-pointer, giving him 23 of the 36 first half points for the Scots.
- The Leopards first lead of the game came with under four minutes to play in regulation after a three pointer from Kyle Henseler (So./Coventry, R.I.) giving the visitors the 69-66 lead.
- However, that lead was short lived as the Scots closed out the game going three for three from the free throw line solidifying the 73-71 win.
Beyond the Box
- With 11 points on the evening, Garrisson Duvivier bumped himself up to third place on the all-time scorers list with a career total of 1,624 points.
- David Massillon grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds in the win.
