Gordon College Women's Soccer's welcomed Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent the Curry College Colonels this afternoon where senior
Lexi Potter's four-goal performance fueled the Scots' offense en route to a 6-2 win over the Colonels. With the win, the Scots improve to 10-3-3 and 4-1 in conference play, while the Colonels drop to 6-10 and 1-4 in league action.
How It Happened
- Just over six minutes into the game, Lexi Potter crisscrossed her defender before tucking the ball into the side netting to put the Fighting Scots up, 1-0.
- Taking the corner kick from the left side, Calla Ashley found Monet Marshall who headed in the Scots' second tally of the game.
- Keeping the offensive pressure on, Kyra Skurcenski threaded a pass to Ashley on the left side before Ashley one-touched it into the center of the box where Potter used her left foot to knuckle it past the Curry keeper, extending the lead to three goals.
- Less than a minute later, a speedy and shifty Devin Lacroix dribbled the ball down the right side of the field before leading Potter through traffic for Potter's third goal of the half. The Scots led 4-0 at the break.
- Not satisfied with their four-goal lead, the Scots' Ashton Barkey got in on the action as the senior fired a ball from the midfield line where Potter raced down the line and put it in the back of the net for her fourth of the day.
- In the 59th minute, McKenna Feller converted a penalty kick after Lacroix danced through multiple defenders before she was fouled in the box to give the Scots the 6-0 lead.
- The Colonels eliminated the shutout as Maddie Wilson (So./Millbury, Mass.) netted two before the clock expired, but it wasn't enough as Gordon took the 6-2 victory.
The Scots travel to Bristol, Rhode Island on Wednesday, October 23 to take on the Roger Williams Hawks at 4 p.m.
