Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Pride Outlast Scots, 6-3

Gordon College Women's Tennis dropped a non-conference matchup against the visiting Springfield College Pride this afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex to even out at 5-5 on the season. The Pride with the victory improve to 3-0. 

The first point of the day went to Springfield's No.1 doubles duo of Cara Freadman (Sr./Richmond, Mass.) and Rielly Malz (So./Glastonbury, Conn.) who snagged an 8-5 decision over Anne Carsey and Madison West. Emily Ontiveros and Jordyn Maddex evened out the score at No. 2 doubles where the Fighting Scots partners earned an exciting 8-7 (7-5) win over their counterparts. Springfield took the final point in doubles at the No. 3 slot with Juliette Piazza (So./Portland, Conn.) and Amanda Hill (Sr./East Longmeadow, Mass.) defeating Anna Mullane and Abigail Graves, 8-7 (7-3) to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles.

In singles, Malz cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the No. 2 spot before teammate Freadman followed suit with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1. After Gordon's No. 5 Mullane earned the Scots' first win of singles play (6-3, 6-2), Springfield's Rachel Ahlmeyer (Sr./Morris Plains, N.J.) sealed the deal for her squad with a 6-4, 3-6, 4-6 victory No. 4 singles. Despite the match being clinched, the Scots also grabbed a win from Maddex in the No. 3 position.

The Fighting Scots have a quick turnaround as they host a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest tomorrow against Wentworth for Senior Day at 12 p.m.
