Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Scots Blast Through Nor'easters, 3-1

In a Homecoming contest against the University of New England Nor'easters this afternoon, Gordon College Women's Soccer earned a 3-1 victory to improve to 8-2-2 and 2-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play.

How it Happened:
  • The Scots' offense came out of the gates attacking. After an early save by keeper, Kali Denty, the Scots fired off 10 shots before UNE found themselves on the attacking end again, only to be shut down by another Denty save. The Scots kept the pressure applied for the remainder of the half nailing three shots on goal, only to have them saved by the Nor' Easters goalie, Jenna Pannone (Jr./Prospect, Conn.).
  • With under thirty seconds to play in the half the Scots managed to secure themselves a corner kick. Sophomore Christa Vordenberg placed the ball beautifully in the box and in pinball like fashion her teammates went to work. After the ball bounced around between feet, Monet Marshall was able to control it and send it to the back of the net with seconds to remain in the half to give her team the 1-0 advantage going into halftime.
  • Five minutes into the second half Vordenburg created another play for the Scots when she finished a cross from Calla Ashley to give the Scots a two-goal cushion on the Nor'easters.
  • The Nor'easters did not give up hope as they tested Gordon's keeper. Denty rose to the challenge as she made three saves on all three shots on goal, including a diving save to save her teams two goal lead.
  • Sophomore Bella Christian tacked on another goal for the Scots with ten minutes left in regulation, to give her team the 3-0 lead. UNE's Alyssa Boilard (So./Wilbraham, Mass.) answered after converting off a corner kick to give her team their first goal of the game and the final goal of the game as the Scots would go onto win, 3-1.
The Scots take a break from CCC play as they welcome Lesley University on Tuesday, October 8 for 7:30 p.m. start.
