Top Ranked Gulls Fend Off Scots, 4-1

Box Score Gordon College Field Hockey traveled down the road to face the Endicott College Gulls in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action this afternoon where the Gulls came out on top, 4-1. With the win the Gulls remain undefeated in conference action at 6-0 while the Scots drop to 1-5.

How It Happened
  • The Gulls' offense kept Gordon goalie Katelyn Pelletier busy, ripping off 11 shots alone in the first quarter. In the fourth minute, Julie Champigny (Sr./Acton, Mass.) capitalized off a rebounded ball in front of the net hitting it past Pelletier for the first tally of the game. Endicott tacked on another goal in the 12th minute to hold a 2-0 lead heading into the second. Despite the two goal lead, Pelletier kept the Gulls at bay, booking six saves in the first period alone.
  • In the 21st minute, Cara Goudie fired a shot into the bottom corner to cut the Gulls' lead in half, 2-1. Four minute later, however, Endicott was able to regain the two-goal cushion thanks to a Kristen McCarthy (Sr./Danvers, Mass.) goal.
  • The Scots' defense was locked in coming out of halftime, keeping the aggressive Gulls' offensive off the board after six shot attempts as well as five penalty corners.
  • Both offenses came out hungry in the fourth with Endicott taking seven shots to Gordon's five. The Scots put pressure on the Gulls' defense, but the Gulls remained firm to keep the Scots from getting any closer. With six ticks left on the clock, Sydney Poulin (So./Watertown, Mass.) led teammate Olivia Lampasona (Fr./Watertown, Mass.) towards the net as Lampasona snuck one in for the Gulls' fourth goal of the game to secure the 4-1 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Katelyn Pelletier's 13 saves is a career-high for the goalie.
  • The Scots return to action on Thursday, October 10 as they travel to New England College for a 7 p.m. start time.
