Hosting the Nichols College Bison in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup tonight at the Bennett Center, Gordon College Women's Basketball booked its second CCC win in a row as they defeated the Bison by a score of 81-56 to improve to 6-3 on the season and 2-0 in league play.
Meghan Foley paced the Scots with 39 points, 11 rebounds and six steals,
Madison Wynbeek added 12 points,
Olivia Gagnon had 11 points in the win, while
Sarah Gibbs grabbed 12 rebounds and six assists.
For the Bison, Alexis Finnerty (Fr./Chester ,Conn.) spearheaded her team with 26 points and three steals and Ciarri Formby-Lavertu (Sr./Mount Vernon, N.H.) added nine points and five rebounds.
How It Happened
- Foley put the Scots up by eight midway through the first quarter before the Bison cut the lead to three with just over two minutes remaining. However, the Scots closed out the quarter with a trio of layups to take a 22-16 lead into the second frame.
- Foley again put on a clinic in the second, converting three of four steals into fast break points to spark the Scots' offense.
- Sarah Gibbs hit a pair of free throws from the charity stripe late in the second and take a 40-27 lead heading into the break.
- Gordon led by as many as 18 after a Foley three-pointer, but Nichols was able to trim the lead to 15 heading into the final quarter.
- Delaney McDonnell grabbed a pair clutch offensive rebounds and quickly tossed them back in to give the Scots a 19-point lead.
- With just over two minutes left in regulation, Jess Wall knocked in her first basket of the season to widen the gap to 24-points. Hannah Vincent closed it out for the Scots after a pair of made free throws to give the Scots a 25-point win (81-56).
Beyond The Box Score
- Meghan Foley registered a career-high 39 points. Her previous career-high was 37 (January 12, 2019 vs. Roger Williams). Foley also had a career-high six steals.
- Madison Wynbeek booked a career-high 12 points.
- Said Head Coach Carter Shaw: "Meghan had another explosive offensive game. She continues to find ways to score and also gets her teammates involved in the action. She was relentless at both ends of the court but offensively came up with one big shot after another. I also really thought Delaney McDonnell's defensive presence made a huge difference and overall I was thrilled to get contributions from so many people."
