Gordon College Women's Basketball welcomed the Seahawks of Salve Regina this afternoon, and the visitors took a 55-45 victory over the Scots on Senior Day. The Seahawks improve their record to 10-14 overall and 6-9 in conference action. The Fighting Scots fall to 6-17 overall and 3-11 in the conference. Â
The Scots were led by junior powerhouse
Sarah Gibbs who recorded another double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds,
Abby Vampatella chipped in with 14 points, five assists, and five rebounds, and senior,
Brooke Dyson netted nine points for the Scots in the loss.Â
The Seahawks were paced by Torie Scorpio (Jr./Cranston, R.I.) who sunk six three-pointers to give her 18 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, Mary Rorke (So./Norton, Mass.) had nine points and six rebounds, while Liv Pierce (Sr./Tyngsboro, Mass.) had nine points and five rebounds to round off the scoring in the Seahawks victory.Â
Gordon College returns to action Wednesday, February 13, hosting Nichols College at the Bennett Center with a 5:30 p.m. start, while Salve Regina returns to action a week from today, Saturday, February 16, as they host Curry College with a 1 p.m. tip-off.Â
How It Happened
- Senior Laura Paquette's hard drive to the basket on the opening possession of the game would spark the Scots to a fast 5-0 lead.Â
- The Seahawks quickly found their way back in the game after a three-pointer from Rorke and layup from Lauryen Becker (Sr./Hanover, Mass.) to tie it up at five all.
- Dyson made it a one point game going into halftime after going 2-2 from the charity stripe.Â
- Back-to-back three pointers from Scorpio gave the Seahawks a ten-point lead with under two minutes to play.Â
- Vampatella's three pointer brought the game within seven but the Seahawks would close out the game at the free throw line, solidyfying their 55-45 road win.Â
