In the final game of spring break action, Gordon College Men's Lacrosse traveled down to Buzzard's Bay to face Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) this evening and, despite marching out to an early lead, were overtaken by the Buccaneers' high-powered offense for an 18-8 loss.
Austin Early had two goals and two assists for the Fighting Scots, while
Dan Arthur netted a pair and keeper
Jay Gallipo had a team-leading seven ground balls.
The Scots return to the Brigham Athletic Complex on Saturday, March 23 as they open up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play with Salve Regina University at 3 p.m.
How It Happened
- The Scots jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind Early's two goals and a solo tally from Tytus Moen early in the first. The Buccaneers then put on an offensive show of their own, scoring four straight goals to close out the first quarter with a slim 4-3 lead.
- Though Gordon's Xander Miller found the back of the net for the Scots in the second, MMA surged offensively for six goals to take a 10-4 lead going into halftime.
- After MMA scored three unanswered goals to open up the third and extend the lead to 13-4, the Scots' Dan Arthur closed out the frame with a goal and netted the first of the fourth to bring Gordon to within seven.
- The Bucs remained steady on both ends of the field, however, outscoring their guests by a 5-2 margin down the stretch for the eventual 10-goal win.
