Scots, Leopards Take One Apiece In CCC Duel

Traveling to Wentworth Institute of Technology to open up Commonwealth Coast Conference play, Gordon College Softball won the second game of a doubleheader this afternoon at Sweeney Field, improving to 9-7 overall and 1-1 in CCC action.

The Fighting Scots continue their streak of CCC matchups as they travel to Endicott on Friday, March 29 for doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. 

Game One
  • Wentworth struck first in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead until the Fighting Scots tied it up at 2-2 in the top of the third off of three hits. Taking a 3-2 lead heading into the home half of the fourth, the Leopards added two more runs to make it a 5-2 game. 
  • Facing a four run deficit in their last at bats, Gordon put on their rally caps stringing together six consecutive hits that platted five runs to take a one-run lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. 
  • With two outs and runners at first and second, Jacklyn Verreault (Fr./Haverhill, Mass.) stepped up to the plate and ripped a walk-off double to win it for the home team by a score of 8-7. 
Game Two
  • Rose Shannon knocked in Lily Rivera for the game's first run and Shannon later scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0 in favor of the Scots. Wentworth answered back in the bottom half of the second, tying it up again at 2-2 thanks to a Rylee Rehders (Jr./Moreno Valley, Calif.) double.
  • In the top of the third, Karissa Hatchell belted a two-run homer over the left field face to take a 4-2 lead. The Scots made it three straight innings scoring a pair of runs to run the score up to 6-2. With two outs in the top of the fifth, the Scots connected on four hits, highlighted by a Megan Jenkerson triple to clear the bases en route to a five run fifth to extend the lead to, 11-2.
  • A pair of singles up the middle allowed Wentworth to add two more runs on the board but the Scots weren't done, scoring seven runs on seven hits in the top of the sixth to lead by 14 and secure the mercy rule victory to finish game two in six innings, 18-4.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Karissa Hatchell collected her first collegiate career homer in game two.
  • Game two pitcher, Jasmine Mullally tied a season-high eight strikeouts in the victory.
  • Senior, Megan Jenkerson had a monstrous night with a career-high six RBIs.
