Due to field conditions, Gordon College Women's Lacrosse welcomed the Lasell College Lasers to a neutral site contest at St. John's Prep this evening and despite a concerted second half rally, the Fighting Scots fell by a score of 14-8.
The Scots' efforts were led by a pair of hat tricks from
Olivia McCarrick and
Greta Moore, as well as a pair of assists from
Molly Guthrie and
Hannah Bourk. In the net,
Annabel Christenson made 11 saves.
The Lasers were evenly paced by Jordan McComb (Sr./Cumberland, R.I.) with four goals, Vanessa Pino (Sr./Methuen, Mass.) and Hope Earle (So./South Hadley, Mass.) with three goals, and Kellie Matthews (So./Walpole, Mass.) with two goals. Netminder, Morgan Choquet (Jr/Woonsocket, R.I.), turned away eight shots in the victory.
Gordon returns to action on Friday, March 8 as they welcome Smith College for a 7 p.m. start time (hosted at Endicott College). Lasell hits the road again as they travel to Wheaton for a 7 p.m. start on Thursday, March 7.
How It Happened
- Pino and Scots midfielder McCarrick got the offensive wheels turning for their respective sides, as both netted a pair of goals each in the opening 11 minutes to keep the game at a deadlock.
- Almost two minutes later, Greta Moore tossed in her first goal of the season to give the Scots a 3-2 edge. Lasell got hungry, scoring four unanswered goals to take the 6-3 lead going into the half.
- After warming up a little during the break, Gordon came out firing with Moore picking up where she left off, netting two straight goals for the blue and white to bring the Scots within one.
- A trio fo goals from the Lasers within a 90 second span gave the visitors a 9-5 lead before adding another goal three minutes later to double up their opponents 10-5 with 11:49 remaining.
- The Scots put some pressure on the Lasers, scoring a quick three goals to climb right back into it again trailing, 8-10 with just under 10 minutes left on the clock. Lasell, however, regained the momentum going on a 4-0 run to close out regulation taking the 14-8 win over the Scots.
