Gordon College Women's Lacrosse invited the Nor'easters of The University of New England (UNE) from Biddeford, Maine this afternoon for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup where the Nor'easters came out firing offensively defeating the Fighting Scots, 14-3.
The trio of
Brenna Otte,
Molly Guthrie, and
Greta Moore netted the Scots' three goals. Defensively,
Melanie Dwyer and
Olivia McCarrick each had three caused turnovers and goalkeeper
Annabel Christenson made 10 saves in the loss this afternoon.
The sophomores led the way for the Nor'easters as Julia Benjamin (So./Tolland Conn.), Casey Conwell (So./North Andover, Mass.), and Molly Camelo (So./Melrose, Mass.) recorded hat tricks with Conwell also dishing out three assists, while Keara Dwyer (So./Cazenovia, N.Y.) had two goals of her own. Julia Langlois (So.Townsend, Mass.) and Kyra Taylor (Sr./Meriden, N.H.) each scooped up four ground balls in the victory.
The Fighting Scots take a break from CCC play as they welcome Vikings of Salem State University on Thursday, April 18 for a 7 p.m. start.
How It Happened
- UNE got off to a fast start after the duo of Dwyer and Camelo each netted a pair of goals to give the Nor'easters the 4-0 lead six minutes into the game. The Nor'easters scored two more goals before Otte was able to convert a free position attempt, giving Gordon their first goal of the game and making the score 6-1.
- UNE scored six more goals to close out the half making it a ten point game going into halftime.
- After UNE scored twice in the opening minutes of the second half, Guthrie converted a free position attempt of her own to net Gordon's second tally of the game, which was quickly followed by a Moore goal cutting the Nor'easters' lead to 13-3.
- Benjamin scored one more time solidifying her hat trick and the 14-3 victory for the Nor'easters.

- Two of the three Gordon goals came from free position shots.
- Annabel Christenson has had double-digit saves in the last two games after today's 10 save performance.
