Scots Drop Two In Double Header Against Nor'easters

Gordon College Softball entered back into Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play as they hosted the Nor'easters of the University of New England (UNE) for a doubleheader this afternoon where UNE swept the Fighting Scots, 6-0 and 3-0.

The Fighting Scots are back in non-conference action on Tuesday, April 23 as they welcome Lasell College for a 3 p.m. start.

Game One
  • UNE got on the board first when Meg Harvey (So./ Westmoreland, N.H.) singled up the middle to bring in Caroline Schoenbucher (Sr./ Barrington/N.H.), who got on base earlier in the inning off a two bagger to left field. In the bottom half of the inning, Rose Shannon made it on base with a single through the left side but it would not be enough as they closed the inning leaving a runner on base and the Nor'easters up 1-0.
  • The rest of the game would remain hitless for the Scots as UNE would go onto have 10 hits, with four of them coming in the top half of the fifth as well as crossing the plate five more times en route to the 6-0 victory.
Game Two
  • The first three innings of the game was a pitcher's duel as Gordon compiled two hits and UNE only one with neither team crossing the plate.
  • In the top of the fourth, Avery Alberghini (Sr./ Moretown, Vt.) of UNE found her way home to give her team the 1-0 advantage. The Scots tried to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth after a string of hits from Laura Bieren, Lily Rivera, and Emma Dubois that gave the Scots a bases loaded situation but the UNE defense buckled down without surrendering a run.
  • UNE crossed the plate two more time on the top of the sixth to push their lead to three. In the bottom half of the seventh Rivera singled through the left side but would be left on base as UNE found their way to a 3-0 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • UNE and Gordon are 4-4 in the last eight head-to-head matchups against the two schools.
  • UNE's Avery Alberghini now sits atop the CCC in batting average with a .543 average.
