The Fighting Scots returned to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action to square off against host Salve Regina University at Toppa Field this afternoon, but it was the Seahawks who took the momentum of their 4-0 win in game one to finish off the sweep with a 9-5 win in game two.
The Scots have a quick turnaround as they return home tomorrow, April 7, to host Curry College for another CCC doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
Game One
- With two outs in the home half of the third, Salve's Amanda Riley (Sr./Barrington, N.H.) ripped her first of two triples on the day to right center, knocking in the game's first runs as Salve jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
- Salve tacked on a run in each of the next two innings to go up by four.
- Jasmine Mullally was solid at the plate going 2-3 in her first plate appearances of the season, but the Scots struggled to get the bats going as Salve buckled down defensively to preserve the 4-0 win.
Game Two
- Looking to change course on the day, the Scots plated two runs in the opening two innings to Salve's one for the slight early advantage.
- Gordon extended their lead by one off of a wild pitch to make it a 3-1 ballgame.
- Despite an 8-0 Salve run in the bottom of the third to overtake the lead, 9-3, the Scots got two of those back in the sixth when Karissa Hatchell laced a double to center to score Megan Jenkerson and later crossed home herself to narrow the lead. That was as close as Gordon would get, however, as the Seahawks retired the order in the final frame for the four-run win.
Beyond The Box Score
- Today's wins extend the Seahawks win streak making them 12-11 overall and 4-2 in conference.
- Salve's Amanda Riley ripped three triples on the day, giving her a total of four for the season.
