Gordon College Softball returned to the diamond this afternoon hosting Curry College in another Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup where the Fighting Scots took two from the Colonels, 8-4 and 7-5 to improve to 13-13 overall and 4-6 in league play.
Gordon has a day off before they face non-league opponent Lasell College on Tuesday, April 9 at 3:00 p.m.
Game One
- Gordon's bats got hot early and stayed that way as Caitlin Catalanotto spearheaded a three-run first inning with a two-RBI double down the left field line.
- No runs crossed the plate for either side until the fourth when Curry's M Colleran doubled in L Duarte to put the Colonel's on the board.
- The Fighting Scots got that run back and more in the home half of the fourth thanks to a solo shot from Emma Dubois as well as timely hitting from Kristen Brown and Catalanotto with runners onboard to take a five-run lead.
- Gordon nearly looked to end it early in the sixth with a seven-run (one run shy of the eight-run mercy rule) lead by the Colonels' defense buckled down to limit the Scots from crossing the plate again.
- Not going away without a fight, Curry strung together three hits resulting in three runs to cut the lead in half but that was the closest the Colonels could get as Gordon took the 8-4 victory.
Game Two
- The Scots again made it 3-0 after one, which was paced by a Karissa Hatchell two-run blast and a Rose Shannon RBI single up the middle to score Brown.
- Brown hit a double to score a speedy Meredith Kercher to make it a four-run lead after four before the Scots put up another three-spot in the fourth off the fiery hot bat of Brown who ripped a three-run dinger to widen the gap to seven runs.
- Curry fought back in the fifth to plate five runs to cut the lead to two, but again was not able to plate anymore runs as Catalanotto came in to retire the Colonels in order in the top of the seventh to secure Gordon's 7-5 win.
