Hosting Saint Joseph's College in men's soccer action tonight at the Gordon College Brigham Athletic Complex, the Fighting Scots dueled their guests through a grueling 90 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of extra time before ending in a 0-0 draw.
The result moves both teams to 1-0-1 on the young season.
How It Happened
- Both squads battled back-and-forth throughout the entirety of the first half but were equally committed on the defensive side of the ball to eliminate any and every scoring threat, leaving the game in a heated scoreless draw at the half.
- That duel continued into the second half of play, as the Scots and Monks put up equal numbers on shots (three a side) but neither was able to break its way onto the board, thus forcing a winner-take-all overtime.
- The Monks had the best opportunity of the night in the first overtime when a Scots foul and subsequent free kick from 35 yards out on the right side sent a potential game-winner in to the head of SJC's Michael Wildes, but Gordon keeper Brody Veleber snagged the attempt on frame to keep the game tied.
- Gordon's Veleber turned away six shots in the draw for the Scots.
