Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bombers' Explosive Offense Too Much For Scots

Hosting the Ithaca College Bombers in a Sunday afternoon matchup, Gordon College Women's Soccer got on the board first but the Bombers got the ball rolling en route to a 5-1 win over the Fighting Scots.

How It Happened
  • The Scots broke onto the scoreboard first in the 12th minute when freshman Sofia Gish collected a ball at midfield and found the feet of senior captain Devin Lacroix at the edge of the Scots' offensive third. Lacroix then turned and slotted a through ball into the area for fellow senior captain Lexi Potter, who tucked a shot past onrushing Bombers keeper Sara Jakobsze (Sr./Webster, N.Y.) to the left post for the 1-0 lead.
  • Nearly 10 minutes later, Delaney Rutan (Fr./Pitcher, N.Y.) knocked in a pass from teammate Alex Epifani (Jr./Dewitt, N.Y.) to tie it up at one all. The Bombers tacked on two more goals before the half to take a 3-1 lead.
  • In the 66th minute, Ithaca looked to add another to their total but Gordon keeper Kali Denty made a diving save to keep the deficit to two.
  • On their fifth corner of the half, the Bombers' Elise Leavitt (Sr./Stratham, N.H.) quickly sent a header into the back of the net thanks to a cross from Ally Christman (Sr./Clarks Summitt, Pa.) to take a three goal lead.
  • Denty kept the Scots within reach after making back-to-back diving saves before Gabriella Mihale (Sr./Oceanside, N.Y.) sent the Bombers' fifth and final tally of the game in the upper right corner to secure the 5-1 Ithaca victory.
The Scots are back in action on Wednesday, September 4 as they host Dean at 4 p.m. on The Quad.
