Hosting the Worcester State University (WSU) Lancers tonight at the Brigham Athletic Complex, Gordon College Women's Soccer edged the visiting Lancers, 1-0 to improve to 4-1 on the season.
How It Happened
- After a quiet 12 minutes to start the contest, Gordon's Calla Ashley nearly knocked in a cross from Lexi Potter but WSU's keeper Tori Socci (So./Blackstone, Mass.) made a diving save to keep it a scoreless game.
- Two minutes later, WSU's Maddie Fong (Jr./Norton, Mass.) ripped a shot from 20 yards out but Kali Denty timed it up perfectly to swat it away.
- In the 74th minute Gordon's Alexa Weindorf was tripped up in the box which led to a Gordon penalty kick where fellow freshman McKenna Feller stepped up to the line and hit a well struck ball to the lower corner, giving the Scots the 1-0 lead.
- The Scots controlled the ball for the remainder of the match to secure the 1-0 victory.
Gordon opens up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play as they travel to Wentworth on Saturday, September 21 for a 12 p.m. start time.Â
