Gordon College Women's Soccer opened up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on the road today by shutting out the Wentworth Leopards by a score of 2-0. The Fighting Scots improve to 6-1-1 on the season (1-0 CCC), while the Leopards fall to 3-5 (0-1 CCC).
How It Happened
- The Fighting Scots controlled the game from the start, keeping the Leopards' defense busy, firing off 10 shots to Wentworth's three.
- In the 33rd minute, Ashton Barkey booted a shot from 37 yards out that sailed into the upper left corner of the goal just over keeper's Allison Haynes' (Jr./Shelton, Conn.) hands to put the Scots up, 1-0.
- Just over 60 seconds later, Calla Ashley sent a corner kick into the box where Kyra Skurcenski headed the ball into a Wentworth defender before Monet Marshall collected it and laced a shot into the back of the net, giving Gordon the 2-0 advantage.
- Gordon took the two-goal lead into the half and continued to control the pace of the game in the second en route to the 2-0 CCC victory.
Gordon takes a break from CCC play on Wednesday, September 25 as they travel to Eastern Nazarene for a 7 p.m. kick-off.
