Gordon College Women's Tennis played host to the visiting Curry College Colonels in their second Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup of the season. The Fighting Scots blanked the Colonels, 9-0 to improve to 3-3 on the year while the Colonels fall to 0-7.
The Scots were awarded the match's first point due to a default on the Curry side in No. 3 doubles. Gordon then cleaned up in No. 2 and No. 1 doubles, respectively.Â
Jordyn Maddex and
Emily Ontiveros topped Curry's Natalie Valvo (Fr./Hermosa Beach, Calif.) and Kelsie Merrill (Jr./Hope, Maine) by a 8-1 tally in the No. 2 position. The No. 1 duo of
Anne Carsey and
Madison West made it a clean 3-0 sweep for the Scots as Carsey and West defeated Sophia Wiernusz (Fr./Collegeville, Pa.) and Alison Daigle (Jr./Edgartown, Mass.), 8-4.
In singles, Gordon again was spotted a win by default in No. 6 singles, meaning the Scots needed just one more win to solidify the victory. No. 3
Anna Mullane was up for the challenge as the sophomore made quick work of her counterpart, winning, 6-0, 6-1 for the clinching match point. Despite the match already being in Gordon's favor, the Scots continued their winning ways with wins from
Meli Markarian,
Abigail Graves, Maddex, and a tie-break victory for West in the No. 1 spot to earn the 9-0 sweep.
The Scots travel to Newport, Rhode Island on Saturday, September 21 to take on CCC foe Salve Regina for a 12 p.m. start time.Â
