Traveling to Newport, Rhode Island for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup against the Seahawks of Salve Regina this afternoon, Gordon College Women's Tennis soared to a 6-3 victory to improve to 2-1 in CCC action and 4-3 overall.
Emily Ontiveros and
Abigail Graves got it rolling for the Fighting Scots as the No. 2 dynamic duo grabbed an 8-1 win over Salve's Casey Farrell (Fr./Cumberland, R.I.) and Shealyn Fitzpatrick (Sr./South Windsor, Conn.) to give Gordon the first point of the day. The No. 3 combination of
Jordyn Maddex and
Anna Mullane followed with an 8-2 win before
Anne Carsey and
Madison West made it a clean sweep in doubles by taking an 8-3 decision in the No. 1 spot.
Already leading 3-0 heading into singles, Gordon clinched the match after two straight wins from West and Graves which sealed the victory for the blue and white. Salve's Laua Krick (Jr./Groton, Conn.) defeated Mullane in the No. 5 position to put her team on the board. The Seahawks then earned consecutive wins from Farrell and Laura Harvey (So./Edmond, Okla.) before Gordon's Ontiveros closed out the day with a win at No. 4 singles to give the Scots the 6-3 win.
Gordon is back in action on Tuesday, September 24 to host Western New England at 4 p.m.
