Gordon College Women's Tennis welcomed Western New England University (WNE) this afternoon for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup. The Fighting Scots took home the commanding 8-1 victory over the Golden Bears, to bring their record to 3-1 in CCC play.
The Scots started the afternoon strong after sophomores
Jordyn Maddex and
Anna Mullane took a 8-1 victory over their opponent to notch the Scots their first point of the day in No. 3 doubles. The Scots went on to win the following two doubles sets with scores of 8-2 and 8-5 to take the 3-0 advantage going into singles.
Emily Ontiveros started singles in similar fashion as she beat out her opponent in the No. 4 spot (6-2, 6-3) to snag the Scots their fourth point. The Golden Bears' senior, Morgan Schrader (Sr./Burnt Hills, N.Y.), gave her team life after beating out
Madison West to give them their first point of the match. It was too little too late as Mullane scored the winning point for the Scots with her 7-5 and 6-0 victory in the No. 5 spot. The Scots would go on to win the next three points and take the decisive 8-1 victory.
The Scots are back in action Saturday, September 28 as they travel to Dudley, Mass. to take on CCC foe Nichols College, for a 10:30 a.m. start.
