Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Scots Strong Performance Not Enough To Hold Off Kean

Gordon College Women's Volleyball hosted the Kean University Cougars tonight in a non-conference matchup and despite a gritty performance from the Fighting Scots, the Cougars came away with teh 3-0 victory to improve to 9-5 while the Scots even out at 6-6 on the season.

How It Happened
  • Kean came out of the gate strong, jumping out to a quick 9-3 lead before Amanda Snyder slammed down back-to-back kills to cut the lead to four. The Cougars then scored five straight points to widen the gap to an eight-point lead at 14-5.Not going away easy the Fighting Scots kept battling, giving themselves a chance to make a comeback. Kean held the 21-16 lead, but Marla Batson gave her team the energy it needed as the junior booked three straight kills, bringing the score to 21-19 forcing Kean to call a timeout. After the timeout Sophia Scola served up an ace to cut the lead to one before the Cougars buckled down to close out the set on a 4-0 run to take the second frame, 25-20 and go up 1-0.
  • The Cougars and Scots traded points for much of the second set before Kean began to pull away after they tied it up at 11-all. The Scots kept their opponents close but a pair of kills by Sedona Gaard (Fr./Haworth, N.J.) gave the Cougars a four-point lead. The Cougars didn't look back as they took the second set, 25-20.
  • In the third frame, Ashlyn Gergins tied it up at 9-9 as the junior setter caught the Cougars off-guard and tossed one over the net for a kill. However, Kean grabbed the next few points to take a 14-11 advantage. A pair of kills from Jamie Tafoya led the way as the Scots fought back to go on top, 15-14. Kean later went on a 5-0 run to take the 21-18 lead and looked to close out the night with a 3-0 sweep. The Scots continued to fight and climbed back into it down by one with Kean holding the 24-23 lead. However, the Cougars were able to collect the final point of the night and took the 25-23 win and 3-0 overall victory.
