Golden Bears Stall Scots In CCC Action

Hosting the Western New England Golden Bears tonight in the Bennett Center, Gordon College Women's Basketball fell to the visitors by a score of 46-60. The Fighting Scots pick up their first loss in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play at 2-1 and 7-5 overall while WNE improves to 10-2 and 3-1 in league play.

For the Scots, Meghan Foley had 19 points, four assists, and three steals, Olivia Gagnon had 14 points, while Sarah Gibbs grabbed 11 rebounds and had two blocks.

WNE's Courtney Carlson (Sr./Woodbury, Conn.) had 21 points and seven rebounds, Emily Farrell (Sr./New Fairfield, Conn.) booked 16 points and six assists, and Meghan Orbann (Sr./East Hampton, Conn.) had eight points and recorded as many rebounds.

How It Happened
  • Gibbs and Foley teamed up early in the first to put the Scots up 6-2 before WNE found their rhythm en route to a 7-0 run to take the lead. Foley stopped the bleeding with four points of her own to put Gordon on top, 10-9 with just under four minutes to go in the frame.
  • WNE outscored the Scots, 8-3 to take a 17-13 edge heading into the second quarter.
  • The Golden Bears continued their momentum on offense and matched their first quarter point total in the second (17) to take a 12-point lead into halftime.
  • The Scots had good ball movement coming out of the break, finding the open player for for an assist on each of their first three baskets. A layup by Gagnon cut the deficit to six midway through the third before WNE began to widen the gap heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Gordon was able to make it a nine-point game three times in the fourth, but WNE wouldn't let them get any closer, eventually taking the 14-point road win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Scots continue CCC play as they travel to Endicott Thursday, January 9 at 5:30 p.m.
  • Today marks Gordon's third straight game with 10 assists.
