Chargers And Scots Break Even In Florida Send Off

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 In their final day of play in Florida, Gordon College Baseball faced off in a doubleheader against Colby-Sawyer College. The Chargers left with the narrow 5-4 win on the first game of the day while the Scots evened out the day with the 5-3 win in the second game.

Game One:
  • Joe Pedulla put on strong defensive front striking out four batters in the opening two innings to keep runs off the board for the Chargers. The game opened up for both squads in the third inning when CSC's Tim Unczur (Sr./Danvers, Mass.) launched a two-run homer to left field to give his team a two run edge. The Scots were quick to answer as Patrick Tevanan opened the home half of the inning with a hit that would be followed by three more for the Scots to bring around four runs and end the inning with the 3-2 lead.
  • In the top of the fifth, the Chargers regained the lead when three more runners crossed the plate to take the 5-3 tilt in their favor. In the bottom half of the inning with the bases, loaded Paulsen brought home Josh Popovitch but would force himself into a double play which would be followed by a strikeout by the Chargers pitcher to end the inning at a 5-4 ball game.
  • The Scots were able to hold the Chargers to a one run lead in the top of the seventh to keep them in striking distance going into the bottom half of the final inning. The Chargers defense proved to be too much as they held the Scots to a hitless and runless bottom half to secure the 5-4 win.
Game Two:
  • Michael Roy (Fr./Fairfax, Vt.) gave his squad their first run of the game in the bottom of the second when he singled up the middle to bring a teammate home. The lead would be short lived as Timothy Oh stepped up to plate in the top of the third and connected on a two-RBI double to give the Scots the 2-1 edge.
  • In the top of the fourth the Scots built on their lead when John Lagerfeldt singled to left to bring a runner around but that would be all they would add in the inning as Chargers' center fielder, Cooper O'Brien (Fr./Vergennes, Vt.), made a beautiful throw to get the runner out at the plate and send them to the home half of the inning. In the bottom half, O'Brien then stepped up to plate and singles down the left side to bring in a runner and would score himself on a wild pitch to tie the game at three.
  • In the top of the sixth, the Scots regained the lead after Nico Gennari laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Cole Winkelman. The Scots would tack on one more run in the seventh to go on to win 5-3.
Beyond The Box:
  • In game two, Cole Winkelman went 4-4 from the plate capping it as his career high in single-game hits.
  • Mark Gadaleta had a season high seven strikeouts on the day.
