Scots Split With Amcats On Day Two Of Florida Trip

Gordon College Baseball headed to Altamonte Springs, Florida to play a double-header against Anna Maria College this afternoon. The Fighting Scots split games with the Amcats, losing the first game 2-1 and winning the second, 5-2. The Scots are now 4-1 on the season.
 

Game One
  • In the top of the first inning with the bases loaded, Nick Genatossio (Jr./Sutton, Mass.) hit a sacrifice fly, to bring home a runner and give his team the 1-0 advantage.
  • In the bottom of the second, Patrick Tevenan gave the Scots their first hit if the game pushing teammate, Jalen Coyne-Martinez to third. Coyne-Martinez reached home off a sacrifice fly by Josh Popovitch to even the score at one going into the third.
  • The Amcats were able to regain the lead in the top of the third of an error by the Scots. The Scots and Amcats then competed in a defensive game until the bottom of the fifth when Tevanan got his second hit of the game but was left on base going into the sixth.
  • The Amcats kept their one-run advantage for the remainder of the game with Jack Marzec (Jr./Northbridge, Mass.) striking out all three batters in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 2-1 Amcat victory.
Game Two
  • Both teams were rather quiet until the top of the third when Cole Winkelman started things off for the Scots with a single to center field, which would push Nico Gennari to second. After both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt, John Lagerfeldt hit a double to bring both runners around home. Lagerfeldt then would score himself off a balk to give his team the 3-0 lead.
  • The Amcats began to cut into the Scots lead in the bottom of the fourth when they put together two hits to bring around two runs.
  • The Scots continued to add to their lead when Erik Gauer hit a solo shot to left field in the top of the sixth and then Popovitch scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh to bring the score to 5-2. 
  • In the bottom of the seventh Mark Gadaleta struck out two batters to solidify the 5-2 victory. 
Tomorrow the Scots head to Auburndale, Florida for a double-header against  Illinois Wesleyan with start times at 9:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
