Gordon College Women's Lacrosse traveled to Northampton, Massachusetts this afternoon to take on the Pioneers of Smith College. The Pioneers offense proved to be much for the Scots as they took home the 16-0 win.
For the Scots,
Cara Goudie had four ground balls and three draw controls,
Molly Guthrie and
Sabrina Jandreau each had three ground balls with Guthrie also causing two turnovers.
Leading the way for the Pioneers was Bella Ferraro (Sr./Orange, Conn.) with three goals, eight ground balls, and five caused turnovers, Reese Gittelnan (So./Ocean City, Md.) had three goals, Kaitlin Chiu (Jr./Paloalto, Calif.) had two goals, and Stella Alphas (Fr./Weston, Mass.) and Bella DeAngelo (Fr./Portsmouth, R.I.) each had two goals in the win.
How it Happened
- The Pioneers attack began fast as they scored two goals in the opening minutes of the game. They continued to attack Gordon's defense and drew two draw controls which they would convert to goals to give themselves the 4-0 lead.
- Midway through the first half Rebecca Resnick made back-to-back saves to keep the Pioneers from building on their lead. Goudie scooped up a ground ball who found Abigail Mansfield, who tried to give Gordon their first point of the game but it was saved by Smith's goalie. The Scots continued to press as Guthrie brought the ball up the field and ripped a shot on net that dinged off the crossbar. Smith was able to add four more goals in the closing minutes of the half to take a 9-0 lead going into halftime.
- The Pioneers did not let up and added seven more goals in the second half to blank the Scots and secure the 16-0 victory.
Beyond the Box
- Next up for the Scots is a road trip to Regis, College to face the Pride at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 12.
