Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Scots Thrill Homecoming Crowd With 6-0 Blanking Of Nichols

Gordon College Women's Soccer invited the Nichols College Bison to compete on the quad for their homecoming affair. There was magic in the air this afternoon when the Fighting Scots came together to dance around the Bison, clobbering their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) guests 6-0. Gordon improves their overall record to 7-2 and conference to 2-1 following this afternoon's landslide.

How It Happened
  • The zestful homecoming crowd lit a fire under the Scots from the first whistle allowing Gordon to get on top early. Junior Calla Ashley got the Scots rolling when she tapped in the first goal from a perfectly placed Abbey Engle pass to give the Scots the go ahead 1-0. Freshman Kristi Di Rico decided to add to the festivities by capitalizing on a fast break and skillfully placed one past the Nichols' keeper.
  • Next, the Fighting Scots made the most of a hard cross from Taylor Talesnick that found its way into the goal after deflecting off of a Bison to make it 3-0 in favor of the Scots.
  • Feeding off the roar of the Gordon crowd, the Fighting Scots didn't let up. Kendra Wentling quickly dribbled past the Bison's defense to lift the Scots fourth goal over the Bison's keeper.
  • Before ending the half, the Fighting Scots chalked up another goal with a beautiful give-and-go from Shelby Jones after drawing out the defense and feeding Alexa Weindorf to mark the fifth goal for the Scots.
  • Gordon kept up their intensity and continued to dominate throughout the second half, ultimately shutting out the Bison. Ashley decided to finish the match off the way she started it with another goal to mark the Scots' final victorious score of 6-0.

Beyond The Box Score
  • The Fighting Scots take a break from conference competition on Wednesday, Oct 6 when they host Maine Maritime with a 4 p.m. start.
