Scots Soar Over Hawks In CCC Showdown

Playing their first home game in 11 days, Gordon College Women's Soccer hosted the Hawks of Roger Williams University this afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play. For the second time in as many games, the Fighting Scots erased a 1-0 deficit to come away with a 2-1 victory. Gordon improves to 11-3 overall and 5-2 in conference action, meanwhile RWU drops to 11-6 and 4-3 in the CCC.

How it Happened
  • Just over six minutes into the contest, the Hawks sent a corner to the box, and after pin-balling around, it was sent into the top right corner by Jordin Comstock to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
  • Determined to respond, the Scots kept the pressure on the Hawks and in the 26th minute, junior Calla Ashley ripped a shot from the top corner of the box to knot the score up at 1-1.
  • In the 64th minute, junior Abbey Engle set up sophomore Kendra Wentling, who drilled a shot over the Hawks' keeper to give the Fighting Scots a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish, securing a pivotal CCC victory.
Beyond the Box Score
  • Junior goalkeeper Tori Paine set a season-high in today's contest with six saves.
  • The Fighting Scots are back in action for senior day on Saturday, October 23 when they will host the Wentworth Leopards at 1 p.m.
