Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Ngolomingi Nets Golden Goal In Senior Day Showdown

Gordon College Men's Soccer hosted the Wentworth Leopards this afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex as the Fighting Scots honored their 10 seniors in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) face-off. After tying it up at one all in the second half, the Scots persistently battled throughout the remainder of regulation but were forced into overtime, making for a heart-pounding victory 2-1 in the second period of overtime. With tonight's thrilling win, Gordon's record improves to 8-5-2 (4-3-1 CCC), while the Leopards fall to 9-8 (4-4 CCC).

How It Happened
  • From the start, both teams challenged each other, ping-ponging command of the ball with a few shot attempts mixed in which were shut down by either squads impenetrable defense. With 10 minutes left in the half, Wentworth took advantage of a rebound off of the Scots' keeper to give the Leopards the initial 1-0 lead. Despite the Fighting Scots' powerful and consistent attempts to even the score, the half ended in favor of the Leopards.
  • However after the break, Gordon's senior Jarvin Ramirez launched a free kick from outside the box that found its way through the Leopards to the back of the net to tie it up 1-1. The Scots continued to strike, recording 10 more shots in regulation while holding Wentworth to four, however neither team was able to go up one, forcing the first overtime.
  • With the extra 10 minutes of action, the Leopards were the only team to get a shot in which the Fighting Scots quickly extinguished resulting in a second overtime period.
  • The Fighting Scots continued to protect their house while also striving to pounce on every opportunity they were given. With three minutes left on the clock, Ramirez took a corner kick, perfectly placing the ball at the feet of classmate Roddy Ngolomingi who redirected it past the Leopards keeper to finish the game with a stunning 2-1 golden goal victory.
