Scots Contain Nor'easters, 3-0

Hosting the Nor'easters of the University of New England this evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play, Gordon College Volleyball blanked the visitors, 3-0 to improve to 13-9 and 5-2 CCC action.

How It Happened
  • After Gordon bolted out to a 7-2 lead, UNE called a timeout to regroup, but the Fighting Scots continued to power on, taking an eventual 13-2 lead before cruising to a first set 25-10 victory.
  • Both sides went point for point in the second frame bringing it to an 8-8 score before the Nor'easters took a comfortable 12-8 edge. The Scots began to fire from all cylinders and battled back to lock it up at 17-all. Despite UNE going back up top (20-17), Gordon went on a 6-1 run to put the score in their favor at 23-21. The score was locked again at 23, then 24 before Gordon closed it out thanks to a pair of kills from Valerie Nilan and Emily Schneider to win 26-24.
  • In the third set, UNE and Gordon traded short runs early on with UNE took a 17-10 advantage. However, Gordon settled down and used the home crowd advantage to orchestrate a 10-1 run to regain the lead, 20-18. UNE was able to lock it up at 23-all but the Scots slammed down three consecutive kills to take the third set 25-22 and the game, 3-0.
