Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Mammoths Fend Off Scots

Traveling to Amherst, Massachusetts for tonight's non-conference matchup, Gordon College Women's Basketball faced the Mammoths of Amherst College. Despite putting up a fight, the Fighting Scots ultimately fell to their hosts, 39-63.

The Scots were led by junior captains Madison Wynbeek and Serianna Anderson who recorded ten and eight points, respectively. Cara Andreotti also added eight points to Gordon's total tonight. Additionally, Wynbeek booked seven rebounds for the Scots.

For Amherst, Gabrielle Zaffiro guided her team to victory with 18 points while rookie AnLing Vera tacked on 11. Meanwhile, Jade DuVal secured 13 rebounds for the Mammoths, spearheading the purple and white's commanding control in tonight's ball game.

How It Happened
  • After forcing two turnovers early on in the game, the Fighting Scots gained the initial edge after Andreotti capitalized on a foul, sinking both free throws. Gordon continued to put pressure on the Mammoths, holding them scoreless almost halfway through the quarter after a seven point run. However, once Amherst got in their groove they never looked back, eventually taking the lead 10-9 with 51 seconds left before Gordon's Ami Rivera snatched the edge for the Scots again with an impressive three-pointer. With one more possession left in the quarter, the Mammoths took advantage of their momentum as Zaffiro recorded her eleventh point of the night, sinking a last second three to go up 13-12.
  • Continuing to add to their lead, Amherst started off the second quarter with back to back three-pointers to stretch their edge to six. The Scots did not fail to answered back, shrinking the deficit after every run from the Mammoths until the last minute when Amherst finished off the half with another three, bringing the score to 29-21.
  • Both squads continued to battle back and forth until the clock read 5:05 when the Mammoths had a second half surge, taking a double digit lead (37-27). Despite their best efforts, the Fighting Scots were eventually defeated 39-63.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Scots hit the court again on Tuesday, November 23 when they host the Vikings of Salem State with a 5:30 p.m. start.
