Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Scots Sink Vikings, 78-40

Hosting Salem State University for tonight's match up on Kanas Court, Gordon College Women's Basketball continued non-conference action by topping their guests, 78-40. After tonight's overpowering win, the Fighting Scots improve to 2-3 on the season.

Spearheading the commanding offense for the Scots was freshman Ami Rivera who booked 18 points. Teammate Cara Andreotti added 16 points, while Caleigh Williams recorded 14 points while grabbing nine rebounds.

For the Vikings, Liz Zaiter led her pack with 10 points. Alongside Zaiter was Irianis Delgado who locked in nine points for Salem.

How It Happened
  • The Fighting Scots stepped on the court determined to make a statement tonight, starting off strong with an 11 point run the Scots took an early 11-2 lead and never looked back.
  • However, after an attempted comeback from the Vikings, Gordon junior Serianna Anderson shut down the Vikings' shrivel of momentum by sinking a three-pointer (14-5). Anderson got the Scots fired up again as they went on a commanding nine point run before Salem got a chance to add to their tally (23-5).
  • The Vikings stepped up their game, trading off points until the Fighting Scots tacked on to their lead thanks to a trio of layups under the basket from Caleigh Williams bringing the score to 32-13. Gordon's aggressiveness continued to pay off soon after when Andreotti quickly stole the ball off of a Viking baseline inbound to perfectly execute another layup and give the Scots a 21 point edge before ending the half 19-40.
  • After a stellar performance in the first half, the Scots came back from half time with the same intensity, quickly adding to their offensive clinic.
  • The Fighting Scots continued to control the court, grabbing a 30 point lead before the end of the third, however it wouldn't be their biggest lead of the night as Gordon was able to ultimately gain a 38 point advantage after another dominant period, finishing off the night with an overpowering final score of 78-40.
