Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

SCOTS TO THE SHIP

In a battle for a spot in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship, Gordon College Women's Soccer traveled to cross-town rival Endicott College to square off against the No. 1 seed at Hempstead Stadium. The Fighting Scots wreaked havoc on the Gulls, defeating the top seed, 3-1 to advance to the finals.

How It Happened
  • In similar fashion to the men's game last night, Endicott drew first blood with a goal in the eighth minute to quickly take the lead.
  • Thanks to a miscommunication in the Gulls' backfield, the Scots evened out the score from an own goal with just under 25 minutes to go until halftime.
  • Gordon came out of the break hot, as Kendra Wentling booted in a shot but was saved by the Gulls keeper, Jacqueline Ruggiero. Endicott followed up with a shot of their own, missing right. It wasn't long before the Scots regained control of the ball, as just over a minute later Shelby Jones found teammate Calla Ashley 30 yards out, when Ashley crisscrossed through the Gulls to perfectly power a long ball to the back of the net giving the Fighting Scots their first lead of the night.
  • The Scots were a force to be reckoned with after Ashley fired them up as Gordon continued to command the field. The Fighting Scots were not content with a one goal lead, as they were quick to return fire. Taking advantage of a corner kick from Abbey Engle was Jones who found the ball in front of the net to quickly finesse a striking header past Endicott's keeper at minute 58 to give the Scots a 3-1 edge.
  • The Gulls continued to attack, however Gordon's unwavering defense squashed any scoring attempts, resulting in a 3-1 exhilarating victory for the Fighting Scots.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Fighting Scots will host the Hawks of Roger Williams for the CCC Championship game on their home turf on Saturday, November 6 with a 5 p.m. start.
