Sattazahn, Omslaer Power Scots' Comeback Win Over Leopards

Welcoming the Leopards of Wentworth Institute of Technology for their second Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup this afternoon, Gordon College Men's Basketball pulled off a 61-58 win this evening after a second half push. With today's victory, the Fighting Scots improve to 2-1 overall, while evening out their conference record to 1-1. Meanwhile Wentworth falls to 2-4 overall (0-2 CCC).

Heading the Scots was Garrett Sattazahn who contributed 16 points, meanwhile teammate Parker Omslaer followed him up with 12 points and nine rebounds.

For the Leopards, Kevin Fernandez booked a team-high 18 points, while Trey Carrier recorded a double-doubled by adding 12 points and collecting 11 rebounds.

How It Happened
  • The Leopards raced out to a 13-3 lead in the first five minutes before eventually going up by 14 (25-11) with 7:04 to go in the first half. The Fighting Scots, however, buckled down and chipped away at the deficit cutting it to four, twice, before Wentworth drained a three with 37 ticks left on the clock to take a seven-point lead.
  • Smith and Sattazahn hit a pair of baskets to open up the second, trimming Wentworth's lead all the way down to three points. With 12:52 on the clock, Zach Quanico nailed a three to give the Fighting Scots their first lead of the evening (40-39). Both sides would trade points for the next 10 minutes before Sattazahn hit a three to make it a one point game (WIT 50-49 GC). However, the Leopards answered back on their offensive end with a three of their own to widen the gap to four points 20 seconds later.
  • With just over five minutes on the clock, Treyton Tebbs hit a layup to tie it up at 53-all. Parker Omslaer continued to keep the Scots hot as the graduate student gave the Scots their second lead of the afternoon (55-53) with a floater. Despite Gordon's lead being short lived as Wentworth sunk a three a few seconds later, the Fighting Scots kept pounding and scored the final six points of the half to come away with the thriller 61-58 victory.
