2021 UNITED SOCCER COACHES NCAA DIVISION III MEN'S ALL-AMERICAN TEAM SELECTIONS
As announced by the United Soccer Coaches (USC), Gordon College Men's Soccer's
Chase Gwynn has been crowned Third Team All-American due to his tremendous efforts leading the Fighting Scots to their banner season. The Scots' fiery scorer continues to rack up post-season accolades as just a few days ago, Gwynn was named First Team All-Region for his consistent clutch performances on the offensive end of the ball this season.
The graduate student earned this prestigious title after making his presence known at the Division III level by netting a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC)-high 19 goals, accounting for two fifths of GCMS' goals, as well as booking six game-winners, and five assists for a whopping 43 total points. Gwynn dominated the conference statistical standings, leading the league in both goals and points by a five goal and nine point margin. Additionally, the standout student-athlete ultimately spearheaded the Fighting Scots' trip to the CCC Championship matchup after scoring half of Gordon's eight goals in playoff action.
Gwynn concluded his career as a Scot on the national rankings as the forward ranked seventh for shot accuracy (.696) and tenth in total goals (19). It should also be noted that Gwynn landed his name on the top 25 of this year's NCAA DIII individual statistics in a staggering seven of ten offensive categories. Along with his shot accuracy and total goals ranking, Gywnn was 11
th in game-winning goals (six), 14
th in total points (43), 14
th in goals per game (.95), 19
th in shots on goal per game (2.4), and 24
th in points per game (2.15). Interestingly enough, First Team All-American selection from UMass Boston,
Nilton de Andrade, recorded 20 goals in a 17 game season, placing him seventh in the nation in total goals, just above Gwynn.
The nod for Gwynn marks the first player under Head Coach
Matt Horth's (Gordon '10) to receive All-American honors since the two-time championship winning coach started his coaching career with the Scots in the spring of 2017.
"I'm so proud of Chase for his accomplishments this season and this recognition is confirmation of his excellent performances on the field," praised Horth. "He's worked very hard over the last four years to mature into a prolific goal scorer and catalyst for this team. He is very deserving of this award. At the same time, it's important to recognize that this award is reflective of the entire team. Chase has depended on quality service from his teammates and their ability to constantly put him in good scoring positions throughout the season. A striker isn't nearly as effective without great teammates to support him. So it's important to keep that context and to recognize the entire team, as well as Chase, for this award. Congratulations to everyone in the Gordon Men's Soccer program!"
Additionally, the CCC was twice represented on the All-American list as Roger Williams' CCC Offensive Player of the Year
Javier Beltran joined Gwynn on the Third Team at his midfield post. This marks the first time in almost two decades that a Gordon Men's Soccer player has been awarded Third Team honors (Matt Smith, 2003) however, Caleb Cole was the most recent Scot to be named to the All-American First Team back in 2015.
