Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Golden Bears Stymie Scots' Fourth Quarter Comeback, 65-55

Kicking off their two game series tonight, Gordon College Women's Basketball team traveled to Springfield, Massachusetts to face Western New England. Despite three close quarters, the Fighting Scots couldn't complete the second half comeback, falling to the Golden Bears by a score of 55-65.

For the Golden Bears, Emily Scurka went 60 percent from the field, leading her team with 16 points, while Julia Quinn followed closely behind with 12 points on the evening.

For the Fighting Scots, teammates, Caroline Sikkink and Abby Vampatella each recorded a double-double, scoring 20 and 13 points, respectively, while also bringing down 11 rebounds each.

How It Happened
  • Vampatella started off strong from the opening tip, forcing a steal on the defensive end before converting an offensive board into a layup to put the Scots on the board first.
  • Sikkink sunk a three with a few minutes left in the first quarter to put Gordon up by six, but the Golden Bears fought back to cut the lead to one.
  • WNE had a strong second quarter, outscoring the Scots by 11 to lead by 10 at the break.
  • Despite leading by as many as 15, Serianna Anderson swung the momentum into Gordon's favor by hitting a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the deficit to nine heading into the fourth.
  • Gordon continued to battle back in the fourth and shrunk the gap to three points off a Vampatella layup, but it wasn't enough to secure the win as the Golden Bears secured the 65-55 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Sikkink's double-double was the first of her career.
  • Vampatella's double-double was the first of her senior season.
  • The Fighting Scots will face WNE again tomorrow afternoon at the Bennett Center at 1 p.m.
