How It Happened
- WNE came out of the gates hot, putting up a quick seven points on the board to lead 7-0 in the early minutes.
- However, Vampatella put her team on her back by scoring 11 of the Scots' 16 first quarter points to make it a 18-16 game in WNE's favor after one.
- Both sides struggled to find the bottom of the net in the second, scoring a total of just 22 points, but WNE maintained the 30-26 advantage at the break.
- Coming out of the half, Vampatella had the hot hand, scoring the first six Scots' points. Hasty hit a three to bring the blue and white within one, but the Golden Bears continued to hold their lead heading into the final quarter, 42-39.
- Midway through the fourth, WNE's Quinn hit a jumper to extend the visitor's lead to eight seemingly putting the game in the Golden Bears hand, but Gordon had other plans.
- The Scots matched each of WNE's timely shots down the stretch to put Gordon in a position to force overtime.
- With just two seconds remaining, Hasty drained a shot from three-point land to send the game into OT.
- Gordon continued to hold the upper hand in OT, outscoring WNE 13-9 to take the victory.
Beyond The Box Score
- Abby Vampatella booked a career-high 25 points.
- Today's win against WNE marks the first time Gordon has got the victory in over 18 years.
- Said Coach Carter Shaw: "I'm just ecstatic with the effort and resilience of this team. They kept battling and believing and found a way to make play after play down the stretch. We played our best defense over the last ten minutes of the game so even though we were down 7 with three and half minutes to go there was a sense that we just needed one thing to break for us. And when we got to the timeout with 45 seconds left, still down by five, I could see a confidence in the huddle that something was about to happen. Then Cara Andreotti made a huge layup to cut the lead to three and Megan Hasty buried an incredible shot with two seconds left to tie the game. Our players elevated their play again in overtime – Serianna Anderson gave us our first lead of the game and Caroline Sikkink made two clutch shots that created some separation. Abby Vampatella, who was amazing in this game, put the finishing touch on by knocking down her last two FT's. I'm so impressed with each player on this team, for their focus, effort and confidence throughout the game. I'm glad they were rewarded with another milestone win for the program."
